Discussion of Committee/Group Reports:

Only additional committee report discussions were these:

Vocations –     Fr. Perry commented that he and Fr. Chris Bakey will be ‘co-organizers’ in this region of

the diocese for vocation outreach to school’s primarily with a first stop this coming Wednesday at St. Nick’s in Egg Harbor City.

Adult Ed.-       After a discouraging start, Laura informed that attendance to available programs is slowly increasing, mainly by word of mouth

Old Business:

Kevin reminded us of need to review and update bylaws at some point.

  1. Automatic Phone System – Carol Johnson provided resourceful information of the current phone system being successfully used with positive outcome at Assumption Parish in Pomona .  After much discussion of the many benefits of this program, it was decided that more research on this was needed.  In addition waiting would be advantages given related topics which would affect the use of such a system in the Parish, (see item B. below).
  2. Parish Census – After much discussion, general consensus of the council was that this is a very important step that needs to be done.  Fr. Perry brought up the advantage of waiting on this so that when this process is done, the time and effort invested is the most fruitful and up to date.  The proposed plan was to make this a 3 step process thereby making every available effort/avenue to reach folks. Step 1 – Mailed letters to all parishioners with enclosed postcard to respond.

Step 2 – Census questionnaire sent to those who responded

Step 3 – Follow up with in pews or at church

In light of the diocesan pastoral Priorities for the Future of the diocese, the construction of Assumption’s new church and school in this area, as well as the magnitude of this project, decision was made to work on this in 2008 and that there would be merit to both parish’s working on this project at the same time.

  1. Kevin asked if any photos were available for of the Assumption School Site Project.  Fr. Perry will

look into this, as he will be at the site this week.

New Business:

  1. Carol Johnson provided that council written information on possible trips with Dave Leopold, “Owner of Travel with Dave,” specifically to Italy in November of 2007.  This was discussed. Consensus of the Council was that this was not of Parish interest at this time.

      B.   To address the needs of Young Adults and Young Families Pat informed the council that the youth ministry is researching a way to bring Theology on Tap (Young Adult Program) to the eastern South Jersey area as well as a way to reach out to Young Families in our Parish with some sort of a social where youth group would provide babysitting.  Bulk of this work is being done by Peter and Kristin.  Ideas are welcome.  Also a Catholic Skate Night is being help on January 20th and will include Mass and an evening of roller skating, this is open to all families of our parish as well as surrounding parishes.
