Discussion of Committee/Group Reports:

Evangelization / Adult Education Committee

Motion to revise parish bylaws:  Instead of classifying the Adult Education Committee within the Christian Education Committee, it will now be categorized within the Evangelization Committee.  In other words, in the constitution and by laws of our parish, Under Article VII, adult education will now be in section C, not section D.

The committee will present a summer series, “The many various cultures of Christianity” on the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Wednesdays of July.  Fr. Sean will cover the Irish perspective, Fr. Cosme the Philippine’s perspective, and finally another priest will add insights from a Latino point of view

Family Life

On Friday, Joanne received a letter from Susan Lorge detailing her proposal to start a parish play group.  (This proposal can be viewed by clicking here)  Although it appeared that everyone on council was in favor of this proposal, several of the members were hesitant to take the next step.  They felt that the following issues should be addressed before proceeding:

·        Reread Susan’s proposal under better circumstances to fully understand it’s scope

·        Will finger printing be required for all of the participating parents?

·        What are the legal consequences that this play group would expose our parish to?

·        The children attending the play group would be how old?

·        What will be Fr. Perry’s thoughts on it?

For now, Pat is investigating the legal ramifications of such a program and I am in the process of forwarding Fr. Perry a copy of Susan’s proposal so that we may all discuss it at the next meeting.

 Vocations Committee

On May 22, the dioceses will conduct another information night for anyone interested in becoming a deacon.

Youth Ministry

Atlantic County is planning a summer youth event for June, July, & August.  Other local churches have committed to events such as a rock concert or the “Burning Bush”.  Our parish is still looking for some way of participating.  In a separate thought, it was also noted that events held in Blackwood are a bit too far for the youth (and the parents who have to drive them)

 Social Action Committee

Because they have not held a meeting in May, their most recent activity during the Easter season was not listed in their committee report.  Ed will update us on all of this generosity in his next report.

Also Ed has once again extended an invitation to everyone to attend SAC’s year end mass on May 30th at 7pm

Old Business:

  1. The Vice President issue- Ray Ring has offered to assume the post, has been confirmed, and is now officially our new Vice President.  Congratulations Ray.

  1. Fr. Bob’s retirement party.  To date 237 people have responded.  Carole and Marge have done a fantastic job preparing it and it promises to be an event to remember.

New Business:

  1. Hospitality for Fr. Perry has been scheduled for Father’s Day Weekend (June 17 & 18).  Fr. Perry has already advised the Liturgical Committee that he will be saying every mass that weekend.  Likewise, Mary Ann has been asked if the Hospitality Committee could serve some sort of refreshments after each mass.  Mary Ann has agreed.
  2. The Chicken BBQ is scheduled for July 23.  Our license has been ordered and planning is proceeding on schedule.
  3. On June 4th at the 11:30 mass Fr. Bob has requested that all Parish Council members be present for an installation / blessing ceremony.  All members except Joan and me stated that they would attend.
