 Minutes were approver

Discussion of Committee/Group Reports:

bulletPublicity & Community Events Committee The parish council’s picture board is completed.  Thank you Carole for a job well done

bulletFamily Life-last month they completed a Pre Cana for 5 couples.  It now appears that that would be the last Pre Cana to be conducted in our parish.  Afterwards the 5 lead couples, citing personal reasons, submitted a letter of resignation.   From now on, an engage couple will participate in the diocese’s Pre Cana program.  Fr. Bob mentioned that it is very common for local parish Pre Cana groups to dissolve.  He thanked Joann and the rest of their team for their many years of service.

As a result of the above situation, the question was asked whether or not the Family Life ministry should be continued.   It was mentioned that there were several other contributions Joann could make to the parish through the Family Life ministry.   She stated that she would give it some thought, look over some material from the diocese, and let council know in September what she has decided.

bullet Toni ght the following committees submitted their membership roster to me.  I will add them to the to the rosters we already have
bulletSocial Action Committee
bulletBuilding & Grounds
bulletParish Outreach Committee

Only Children’s Religious Education ministry has yet to provide a roster.

Old Business:

  1. House of Charity- we are over our goal.  There was a nice last minute appeal to 100 families who participated last year, but not this year.  About 25 of those families eventually did contribute.  Fr. Bob stated that if we received approximately 6 more new contributors, our percentage of rebate would increase.  He stated he would make one more appeal.
  2. Garage- the builder is sending the plans tomorrow to the city.  It is now realized that there will be an extra expense for the removal of the fence, shrubs, and sprinklers.

As for the parish center project- it is currently down to 3 options

    1. Proceed with the addition that was already proposed.  This project would cost about $175K, may require some sort of a capital campaign,  and has already generated some negativity
    2. Simply renovate the building without adding an addition.  This project could probably simply be completed  with labor from our parishioners
    3. Reconstruct the annex.

Each of the 3 options are being explored.  When asked if the parish council would have the opportunity to debate the 3 options, Fr. Bob stated “We’ll see what comes up”

  1. Chicken Barbeque- planning is started and well underway.  George Meuller will be replacing the retired Bob Essl.  Once again it will be held inside and it was suggested that maybe Suite Inspiration perform without their amplifiers.  Charcoal has already been donated, the Youth Group is available to volunteer, and I offered any assistance in obtain provisions at wholesale.
  2. The list of parishioners who reside in Galloway-Fr. Bob stated that he requested that Ted give him a more understandable list.  So far Ted has not yet responded.  I mentioned that I would email Kevin and ask Kevin to help Ted get that list together.  It was then noted that Fr. Bob should  submit that list  to either:  Fr. Roger McGraft, Fr. John Burton, or Fr. Bob McDermont

 New Business:

  1. Evangelization- our parish will be part of a diocesan program of reaching out to inactive Catholics.  They will be called or invited to return to the Church.  This is the second time this program is being conducted.  It is scheduled for the fall.  Former individuals who have responded to this call are being asked to help during this drive.
  2. Stewardship Program- because it has been several years since the last stewardship program, our parish will conduct another one this fall.  Each weekend in October will be dedicated to a topic of:  Time, Talent, Treasure, and Commitment.  Lay people are being recruited to give a 3-4 minute presentation on the topic.  Volunteering tonight were Matt & Pat (Time), Frank (Treasure), Bob(Talent-Saturday only)

Frank also presented the concept of electronic giving.  He cited a parish in Ohio , similar to ours that implemented the program.  Their parish of 2600 was being supported by only 500 families.  After initiating the program, 700 families were supporting the parish and giving increased 40% in the first year.   Council agreed that this was a great idea.  Being careful on how it is presented and the educational material that would be required were its only concerns.  Frank is to follow up with Fr. Bob on this.

Frank also noted that this year’s summer lecture series is entitled “World Religions Collide”.  So far he has a priest and a rabbi scheduled to speak and is in the process of finding a representative from the Islamic religion.

Open Forum

Congratulations went to Addie Blee, New Jersey ’s Mother of the Year.  Addie recently returned from Texas where she was inaugurated into her position and attended a series of lectures explaining what this titled entails.  Addie stated that she had a great time and she appeared excited to undertake the responsibilities of the job.
