bulletParish Outreach Committee

bulletLiturgical Committee

It was requested that in the future, all ministries should respond to my request for reports.  I request these reports at least 7 days prior to the meeting.  In an effort to save time, and make sure nothing is overlooked, all ministries should respond to the request.  If there is nothing to report, then simply state that there is nothing to report

Discussion of Committee/Group Reports:

Vocations Committee- noted that October 31 is the second annual Priesthood Sunday. It will be commemorated with:

bulletInserts in the bulletin (for the 3 weeks prior) explaining the event
bulletSpecial intercessions and a special concluding prayer
bulletA member of the parish will lead the congregation in blessing our priests
bulletA reception was to follow, but has been cancelled due to a conflict in the hall

 Parish Outreach Committee

bulletThey are in the process of putting together their Summer Spirituality Series for 2005.  Currently they are choosing between 2 topics:
bulletThe Eucharist
bulletWorld Religions:  Judaism, Christianity, Islamic, and also possible including Hindu and Buddhism
bulletGiven the situation in the world today, several individuals favored the World Religion topic with emphasis on the Islamic religion
bulletFour minute teachings on the Eucharist are still be conducted at each mass
bulletThe program Catholics Returning home is in the works
bulletEvery Tuesday there is a Biblical Study presented by Justin Falciani

Youth Ministry- just returned from a successful trip to Washington .  The John Paul 2 Museum and the Franciscan Monastery were 2 highlights of the trip.

Family Life- 7 couples signed up for last week’s Pre Cana Classes.  Six made it to the event.  Except for an overbooking in the hall, everything went well.

Old Business:

  1. Overview of Parish Mission- At first Fr. Bob and Blair felt that it was a success and that they had not heard of any complaints.  On that note, other contrary opinions began to surface.  For instance:
    1. Dr. Bob was a surprise and maybe his presence took away from Fr. McCarthy’s time
    2. Their healing ministry may have been a bit intimidating and confusing.  It probable should have been preceded with an explanation.
    3. It was felt that the children did not get it
    4. It was a bit tacky trying to sell their books from the altar.

In conclusion, if nothing else, the diverse experience was good for the parish

  1. Parish Center :  Floor plans of the new center sere distributed to all.  Questions still remain on it being handicap accessible
  2. Parish Council Photo Board is still scheduled for a December 2004 unveiling

New Business:

  1. Proposed Assumption Regional School-
  2. bulletThey plan to be open by the 2006 school year
    bulletA survey was sent out
bulletThe Diocese’s Education Department is also conducting a school study.  A group of volunteers will have access to Assumption School ’s Administration and produce a report stating its viability
  3. Eucharistic Adoration- This weekly event began last Friday and was well attended.  Hopefully the participation will remain strong.  The bishop has asked that we pray for Vocations and the Stability of Family Life.
  4. Recognition of Accomplishments- In a parish where so many people do so many wonderful things, Kevin felt that the Council should take the time each month and recognize an individual for their efforts.  Exactly how we should recognize them was not decided; possibly a letter or even a gift certificate.  More on this later.
  5. Legislative Dialogue (Nov. 9).  A handout from the Star Herald was distributed explaining this dialogue in more detailed.  As already mentioned, Frank, Addie, & Kevin have volunteered to represent the council at this event.

 Open Forum

bulletPro life Chain- 15-20 people attended, which was more then last year.  The event last about an hour.  The attendees held Pro Life signs and recited the rosary several times
bulletPrayer Groups- Fr. Bob asked for an update on how many prayer groups are currently going on in our parish.  To the best of our knowledge:
bulletNora Wenz leads a Charismatic prayer group once a month
bullet Laura Eger meets aprox. once a month with last year’s Catholics returning home group
bulletAddie Blee and Laura are talking about starting another group
bulletLast year’s RCIA class is still getting together
bulletThis year’s RCIA program started October 5.  There are 2 catechumens and 5 candidates.  The First Rite of Acceptance is scheduled for November 28 bulletThe diocese is conducting a program called CAP (Child Assault Prevention) bulletFr. Bob wanted to point out what a fine job Ed did in promoting the parish’s involvement in this year’s Crop Walk.  Father noted that none of his prior parishes ever put forth the interest and efforts that Ed contributes.  Unfortunately, there were only 5-6 walkers this year, and Ed admitted that he was disappointed with the turnout.

 Summary of topics discussed:

bulletThose Pending:
bulletThe parish Center being handicap accessible
bulletRecognition of Accomplishments- are we to go forward with this idea?
bulletThose Closed:  nothing noted bulletThose Tabled:  nothing noted
