 Discussion of Committee/Group Reports:

bulletLiturgical Committee is in need of volunteers for Holy Thursday’s washing of the feet.
bulletYouth Ministry (via Kevin)
bulletApproval was requested to bless drivers at 3 of the April 18th masses.  Fr Bob noted that Fr. Carlton would be the person to ask.
bulletKevin also commended Pat and Beth for the fine job they did hosting the 30 hour famine.  He also stated that he wished that their great efforts would be matched with better turnouts.

Old Business:

  1. Parish Mission .  July and September appear to be our options.  It is now up to us to pick one.
  2. Election Nomination Update.  Exact number of nominations could not be confirmed at this time.  It appears that Connie and Rita were still taking names over the phone during the time of our meeting.   Hopefully, they will be able to give us a firm count by the May meeting.

 New Business:  Update Evangelization

bulletParish Outreach Committee is beginning  a “Catholics Returning Home” Program
bulletInvite back inactive Catholics and those with no church
bulletThere are 20 million inactive Catholics in our country and most of them are inactive because no one ever invited them to come back
bulletThey plan to advertise via the American Legion sign, post flyers, hand out brochures, and take out paper and TV ads. They are also considering mailing parishioners who are registered, but do not use their envelops (meaning that they don’t go to church)
bulletEmphasis is being placed on the Ash Wednesday, Easter Sunday, and Christmas masses as a time to approach non-practicing Catholics
bulletOnce identified they would be invited to a series of 6 meetings to get back involved (or connected) to the Church
bulletFirst meeting would simply allow the individuals a chance to vent any grips they may have with the Catholic Church.  This may have been the reason that they strayed.
bulletThe next meeting would talk a bit about where the Church is today and what has happened to it since they were last connected to it.
bulletBy the third meeting, once they are feeling a bit more comfortable, a priest may be asked to speak and expand upon last week’s message.
bulletAnd so forth
bulletPossibly running a 20 minute film continuously  on the Eucharist after and during Sunday masses (along with refreshments) bulletIt was noted that some people may have fears about coming back. bulletBernie G. already conducts an inquiry classes on how to become a Catholic bulletThere will be a Lenten series of speakers on Thursday nights during lent. bulletMatt remembers a priest from high school that explained how many of our Catholic customs and ceremonies got their origin.  He thought that would make a good topic for a speaker.

Open Forum

bulletHouse of Charity currently at about 53% of goal.

bulletChicken BBQ is scheduled for July 25, 2004 .  Bob Essl will start it, with George Muller closing the event.
