 Discussion of Committee/Group Reports:

Community Events/Publicity Committee:  Regarding the photos of the parish council, it was asked if the assistant chairpersons (or co chairs) should be shown in the picture.  It was agreed that they should be included.

Social Action Committee:  Matt applauded them for their amazing work that they do each month.  After that, they submitted additions to their report that was already submitted.  SAC also:

bulletDistributed 131 turkeys over the holidays
bulletSent 27 bags of groceries to Sr. Grace
bulletSeveral bags of clothes were distributed
bullet347 Christmas cards were mailed to shut-ins
bullet291 Thanksgiving cards were mailed
bullet292 Dinners were collected
bulleton Jan. 20, they are sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive

Family Life:  Joanne stated that it’s hard to believe no one has contacted her for Pre Cana over the last year.  Although she has mentioned this fact at several meetings, it appeared that last night the reason for the problem surfaced.  Neither Fr. Bob nor Fr. Carlton were mentioning to the engaged couples that they have an option to do an in-parish Pre Cana.  From this point, Joanne wanted to stay with the present system:  Have the engaged couples call her if they are interested.  On the other hand, Fr. Bob & Fr. Carlton seemed to prefer the concept of: Give us a date when you are having the in-parish Pre Cana, and we will promote it that way.  In the end, Fr. Bob requested at least one date be set for the upcoming year.

Youth Group:  Pat would like to take their activities to another level.  By scheduling speakers, cooking & baking together, or whatever, she hopes to make it more interesting for those attending and to attract new members.

 Old Business:

bulletParish Directory:  They should be delivered Feb. 5.  To distribute them, I have asked Joan to recruit student volunteers.  They will man three distribution tables after each mass.  Fr. Bob also suggested recruiting mass coordinators, Eucharistic ministers, or lectors to help oversee the students.  The first weekend following Feb. 5 was decided to be a bad weekend to distribute (primarily because of the appreciation dinner).  So it was decided that the directories be distributed during the next 2 weekends.
bulletStewardship Campaign:  The results are in but difficult to read.  Fr. Bob stated that questions do not match up and names are placed throughout the report without any clue to their purpose.  More work is required to understand these results.  The company compiling the surveys has been contacted to assist us.  According to Fr. Bob they appear genuinely ready to assist.
Also, in respect to the written comments submitted by parishioner on the surveys, it was mentioned that these comments would be too overwhelming to read and maybe should be ignored.  Council was strongly against this, and stated that the comments were probably the most important part of the survey.  Shortly thereafter, most of the council volunteered to help unravel these comments.
Finally, it was unsure what happened to the commitment cards that were filed out by the parishioners.  There whereabouts will be pursued.
bulletAppreciation Dinner:  it will be held Feb. 8 in the church hall.
bulletCoffee & Donuts:  Pat McCullough has volunteered to experiment with the concept of coffee & donuts after some of the masses.  There is no schedule set in stone for when there will be donuts.  It appears to be a project that we are just dabbling with in the effort to build community spirit.
bulletSponsor a Religious Vocation:  Bill & Connie have researched the concept of financially aiding a student of a religious vocation.  They have identified several candidates and have specifically named one which they feel is most deserving.  Besides the question of how much money would be appropriate to give, the risk of whether or not our money would be properly spent.  For instance, is it possible for this individual to leave their religious vocation after we help finance it?  This is even more relevant depending on what stage of their vocational training they are at.  Bill & Connie plan to further evaluate this idea.
bulletThe Sign:  Blair has obtained bids and proposed 3 options to upgrade our sign on the White Horse Pike.
  1. Refurbish and replace with 8” letters ~$5,000.
  2. Refurbish and move the current sign ~$10,000.
  3. Build a new sign ~$35,000.

The goal of this sign would be to entice people to come in and worship in church.  There were several problems that the council thought faced this project, for instance:

bulletMuch of our church’s property has been given to the state.  Do we still own the area where we would like to move the sign?
bulletIs the location on the White Horse Pike the most productive spot for such a sign?
bulletOther community signs (i.e. the American Legions & St. Mark’s) seem to be very productive, but they do not appear to have cost $35,000.

 New Business:

bulletAnother Parish Trip:  Pat was commended for the great job she did on setting up the Christmas Show trip. The question was raised if we should pursue a similar trip this spring to see Daniel?  .  Pat advise whoever runs the trip to be patient, most tickets are not sold until just two weeks prior to the event.
bulletSocials:  Fr. Bob would like to promote more social activities in our parish.  The ideas of dances, Surf or Bullies games, and Monte Carlo nights were suggested.  At this time, we are looking for someone to run these events.  An ad will be placed in the bulletin to recruit a Social Activities Committee.
bulletElections:  3 Members of the council (President, Vice-president, & Secretary) will be leaving next year.  Fr. Bob thought it wise to start thinking about how to do this and how to do it efficiently.  More will be said on this at future meetings.

Open Forum

bulletPlease note that Mark Kleuser has a new email address.  If I read his writing correctly, it is M.Kleuser@eznet4u.com
bulletWorkshop:  Volunteers are still being sought to assist our parish in the implementation of the revised General Instruction to the Roman Missal
bulletFYI:  Matt has been invited by the bishop to attend a six week study group that will help interpret the bishop’s document on “the role of the laity in the Church”
