Discussion of Committee/Group Reports:

bulletBuilding & Grounds:  Because of unanticipated opposition to the removal of the stage, alternate ideas are being researched (i.e. the CCD lobby).
bulletRay also felt that Ash Wednesday’s services were a bit chaotic.  For future Holy Day/Special Masses, it is felt that a mass coordinator must be assigned to these masses.
bulletAs far as upcoming special masses, Fr. Bob would like altar servers scheduled in advance.  As far as the lectors and Eucharistic Ministers are concerned, a volunteer sign-up sheet created and made available at least one week ahead of time should suffice.

Old Business:

  1. Betty Jane Kane is in the process of planning a social trip to Philadelphia .  The trip will be to see the show “Momma Mia” on May 23.
  2. Deanery Pastoral Council:  in an attempt to provide adequate lines of communication and increase member participation, the diocese is strengthening & encouraging the use of councils.  Currently, there is a hierarchy of councils in place, ranging from parish pastoral council, deanery pastoral council, to diocesan pastoral council.  In the event that we need to discuss an issue within our deanery council, Msgr. Volozo would schedule a deanery pastoral council meeting for our 16 participating parishes.  Some reasons for conducting such a meeting would be to share costs or resources with neighboring parishes, or to communicate and discuss an issue of concern.

New Business:

  1. Changes in the Liturgy:  One more change is still left to be implemented.  It was also suggested that a list of all the changes be compiled and made available.
  2. Future Council elections:  Elections for all 3 members will be conducted in May 2004, with installations slated for the following month.  These new members will sit for a 2 year term, then once replaced, they are asked to attend the parish council meetings for another year.  It was decided that this fall, a nominating committee begin the process for next year’s elections.
  3. Parish Plan:  is due June 1st.  Last year Frank Blee prepared the entire plan.  In an effort to spread the work load over more people, six people (Fr. Bob, Fr. Carlton, Frank, Matt, & 2 yet-to-be-named) will meet April 7 at 7:00pm .  This group will brain storm and compile some long term goals.  Later these goals will be brought back to council and were the details and specifics will be discussed.

Open Forum

  1. On March 22, the 5:00 mass will be sung by the diocese’s gospel choir.
  2. On April 3, there will be an evening of reflection at the retreat house from 5:30-9:00 .  Fr. Bob has invited everyone from council to attend this dinner/night of reflection as his guest.  If interested, please let him know before this weekend.
  3. On April 11, the Franciscan Ministry Players will present “The Way of the Cross”
  4. It was decided to place a letter of appreciation ad in The Current newspaper for Absecon’s Centennial.
  5. Our church was asked to purchase a banner that would decorate a street in Absecon.  Although no vote was taken, it seemed that the general consensus was that this was an unauthorized project and a bit costly.
  6. Matt reported on the Bishop’s study group, Laity in the New Millennium.  Matt feels that a course will be the result of this study group, which would be offered at the parish level.
